Anomaly detection is a feature introduced in Power BI to enhance users understanding of their data by automatically detecting anomalies and providing explanations to help with root cause analysis.
The feature is based on an AI engine which learns the data and maps the expected range of values. When a value goes outside the expected boundary, it is marked as an anomaly.
Designing the Experience
When the AI engine triggers the anomalies, it also provides useful outputs that can be utilized in the design and enrich both the experience and user understanding of the insights.

The engine maps the norm range, the data points that are above or below the expected range and uses natural language to produce explanations of the anomalies that are found in the data, along with the factors associated with that anomaly sorted by its explanatory strength.

The feature helps users to find statistical anomalies in their data, provides possible explanations for these anomalies (based on AI insights) and tracks upcoming anomalies.

Moreover, it positions Power BI as a lead in the automated insights realm.
For the mobile scenario, ׳on the go׳, this was especially useful since the visually overloaded user can now enjoy a high-level view of their data through the insights.
